POISON NEWS
Warning of bacteria in cheese
Source: New Straits Times, October 25, 2010

Malaysia -  The Ministry of Health Malaysia has issued a warning against the consumption of cheese products from a South Australian company after it was reportedly contaminated with bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.  The cheese products have been recalled by Australia’s consumer association.

Listeria, which causes a bacteria infection called listeriosis, attacks those with weak immune systems.  It is especially harmful to pregnant women and can cause premature birth and stillbirth, among others.  Symptoms for listeriosis include high fever, headaches, neck cramps and nausea.
