Washington (U.S.A) - China and the United States - two of the world's five major nuclear power - said they were accelerating efforts to ensure the international pact banning nuclear tests is ractified by the end of 1999. The Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty which is signed by 151 countries cannot enter into force until the United States and a number of other specific nations, including India and Pakistan, ractify it. India and Pakistan met with international condemnation and a US sanction when they conducted nuclear tests last May, setting back international efforts to control the spread of weapons of mass destruction.
