International Webinar Unites Experts on Household Poison Prevention

On July 16, 2025, PRN organized an online professional webinar as part of the National Poison Prevention Programme. The event, hosted via Webex from 2:00 to 4:00 pm (Malaysian time), brought together leading figures in clinical toxicology from around the world.
Special guest speakers included Dr. Suad Al-Sulaimani from the Middle East and North Africa Clinical Toxicology Association (MENATOX) and Dr. Ruth Sabrina Safferi from the Malaysian Ministry of Health (KKM), with moderation by Dr. Mohamed Fahim Abdul Cader of the Asia Pacific Association of Medical Toxicology (APAMT).
The webinar attracted approximately 175 health professionals from Malaysia, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, including 41 USM staff members.
Participants attended two main lecture sessions. Dr. Suad Al-Sulaimani discussed “Caustics/Hydrocarbons as Household Toxins,” while Dr. Ruth Sabrina Safferi presented on “Household Poisoning: The Do’s and Don’ts.” Experts highlighted the dangers of toxic household substances such as bleach and gasoline, practical management strategies for acute poisoning, and emphasized the importance of early detection, evidence-based treatment, and preventive measures.
The event also addressed current challenges and common misconceptions in toxicology. Attendees had the valuable opportunity to interact directly with specialist speakers. By gathering a diverse and international audience, the webinar successfully advanced professional knowledge on household poisoning risks and management.
