Researchers Trace Pesticide Poisoning Trends in High-Level Putrajaya Fieldwork

In a strategic move to bolster national chemical safety, a specialized research team led by Dr. Leong Yin Hui conducted a high-level field study in Putrajaya on January 15 and 16, 2026, to investigate the epidemiology of acute pesticide poisoning across Malaysia. The delegation, which included experts Dr. Anis Syamimi, TS Dr. Ahmad Shalihin, Puan Adilah, and Puan Sulastri, collaborated with officials from the Ministry of Health’s Health Informatics Centre (PIK) and the Occupational Safety and Health Sector to analyze hospital admission trends and occupational poisoning notifications. This data collection serves as a critical component of a retrospective study evaluating the impact of national bans on hazardous substances such as Paraquat, Carbofuran, and Chlorpyrifos. The mission was further strengthened by technical discussions with key Ministry representatives, including Dr. Maznieda Mahjom, Dr. Puganeswary, and Sector Director Dr. Nik Khairul Reza, as well as on-site consultations with field researchers from Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Banting Hospital, and Shah Alam Hospital to ensure a comprehensive overview of the poisoning landscape.
